A router is used to connect computers or other electronic devices to the internet or to each other by cable or radio signals (wireless). A typical home wireless router also has four wired ports. A switch or a network hub connects multiple twisted pair or fiber optic Ethernet devices together. However, it does not do any routing. All the devices act as a single network segment.
