I am a career English teacher living and working in China. During my nearly nine years here, I am continually questioned in relation to which school parents should send there children too; this is a question that is not restricted to China but many countries. The three most popular countries from an Asian perspective are America, Australia and England. To answer the perennial question of which are the academically superior schools in England is easy, there is a web site that lists all that countries private (independent)schools in decreasing order of academic success. My problem is Australia, my home-land to which I encourage Asian parents to think of first.

It is in relation to access to a national list of private schools that is my, and Asian parents, challenge. Of all the web links I have explored yours comes closest to providing answers;however,it seems very biased to Victoria, or is it that I am not using your site correctly. Your advice and assistance in this regard would be welcomed and appreciated. I am trying to support the education system in my country but am hindered by a lack of easily obtainable and credible information.

Thanks for supporting our education system.

You are right. There is no national school ranking in Australia. This is because there is no unified education system in Australia and there is resistance to such a listing from schools and teachers union. Each state has a different high school education certification system such as VCE in Victoria, HSC in NSW and ACT, OP in Queensland and so on. Although some of the ranking systems are similar, such as ENTER, UAI, TER, but not all, for example, OP is different.

Like you, Better Education Australia tries to support our education system by initiating the school ranking. See "How does Better Education Australia rank schools?". This is our first step. Please visit the school ranking of VIC, NSE, ACT and QLD at http://bettereducation.com.au/SchoolRanking.aspx. Due to the regulation of other states, we cannot publish their results.

There is good news, we'll have a nationally unified education system soon, see Nationally unified Year 12 student ranking system ATAR to replace UAI/TER/ENTER (the second post).
