My School website 2.0 published school's financial data in addition to 2010 NAPLAN results.
Nationally, independent, government and Catholic schools operate on an average of $13,700, $11,100 and $10,000 per student respectively.
Victoria's independent schools are the best resourced schools in Australia. They operate on an average of $15,201 per student while the average is $10,178 for Victorian government schools and $9300 for Victorian Catholic schools. This is more than any school sector (independent, government or Catholic) in any other state or territory in Australia.
Parents even some principals of government schools might be surprised about how much is being spent for their schools. Nationally, 90 per cent of students attend schools that receive between $7400 and $18,800 per student. For remote or special schools, the funding is as high as $150,000 while some low-fee private schools just got $3000 per student.
According to Independent Schools Victoria chief Michelle Green, the average for Victorian independent schools was only slightly above that for NSW independent schools ($14,770 per student). She said Victorian independent schools got two-thirds of their income from parents, 27 per cent from federal government and only 7 per cent from the state.
